Childhood hunger is one of the most urgent, yet most solvable issues facing children in Africa. There are over 500 million children in Africa but only 27% of these have access to school meals. In Kenya, 1 in 4 children is stunted due to poor nutrition.
We provide hot, nutritious subsidised lunch meals to school going children everyday. We currently provide 75,000 + meals everyday and and we are moving to serve 1 million meals every day in the next 5 years. We do this by focusing on 3 key parts of school feeding:
Food is sources in large volumes from large aggregators to secure best prices.
Food is stored in and sorted before meals.
Food is cooked in central kitchens(hubs). Transition from eco-briquettes to more efficient steam cooking.
Children receive a hot, nutritious meal and can focus, participate and perform in the class.
Children use their NFC watch to tap to eat, $0.15 is deducted from their virtual wallet and a digital record is kept.
Food is distributed to a network of schools(spoked) using smart logistics.
